WHEATHILL CLUB DIARY 2017
As Captain of Wheathill golf club, I would like to welcome you to a very special year, our Silver Jubilee.
As a memberfrom the very first week the course was opened in 1993, I've watched how the course has continues to mature.Tey were happy days of pick and drop from the 8000 staked trees that were planted. (These days we take our medicine). We now have a golf cpouse, which may not be the longest or the most undulating course in the country, but it has improved sufficiently to test the quality and skills of the most experienced golfer.
I'm looking forward to working with Melanie Brewin (Ladies' Captain), Alan Forscutt (Seniors' Captain) and Tomos Wray (Juniors' Captain) to make our Jubilee year a shop window for our club, and to show our visitors how well our course and facilities have come on since the early years, as well as being one of the most socially friendly clubs in the county.
In this year's diary, we have Silver Jubilee related local and open competitions. Every month, the club member winning the monthly medal with the overall best net score, will receive a silver engraved medal in a blue velvet case. For this coming season's 36-hole club championship, the winner will receive a Silver Jubilee trophy to keep; the player with the best net score (Hedges & Ditches) will receive a similar trophy. A picture of the medal and these trophies are shown on the front cover.
To celebrate this year's Silver Jubilee, my Captains' day will incorporate a family day after the morning's golf. This event will take place on Saturday, 21st July. On Saturday 29th April, we will host a Men's Invitational with generously sponsored prizes, and on Saturday 29th September, we are holding a Silver Jubilee Men's Pairs Open event. Please remember these dates and invite your friends from other clubs.
THe full details of these competitions and the Seniors', Ladies' and Juniors' related Jubilee competitions will be published in our monthly newsletter, on our website (Members' login password is "whemem18") and displayed on the notice-board nearer the time. Dates of all other competitions, events, league matches, friendlies, etc. can be found in the diary.
I would like to thank Gunnar Ovland (past Captain) for being my mentor for the past 12 months, also the pro shop team, the club house staff (keep up the good food), the ground staff and the committee members for giving up their time to make this club a success.
Our League teams are always looking for new competitive players, in order to improve the teams' squad. Team colours are white tops and navy bottoms.
Don't forget that there are a number of roll-ups for new & old members every week.
Roll-up days are:
Ladies, Tuesday 10:00am
Seniors, Monday & Wednesday 7:45am (8:00am in the Winter)
Men, (Spanners) Saturday 8:30am & Sunday (Washers) 7:45am
Finally, I'm honoured and humbled to be elected Captain in yhis, our Silver Jubilee year. I shall devote much time and effort into making this special year, one to remember. Enjoy your golf, but most of all, enjoy your health.
Have a good 2018 season,
Charlie Anderson (Club Captain)
